Botanical name: Funastrum heterophyllum
Common mane: Hartweg's Climbing Milkweed
one size - 10 seed packet
Funastrum heterophyllum, commonly known as Hartweg’s climbing milkweed or Hartweg’s twinevine, is a perennial climbing member of the milkweed family native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is especially characteristic of desert washes, arroyos, rocky slopes, sandy soils, and other dry habitats across the Sonoran and Chihuahuan Desert regions.
This species produces slender, twining stems with narrow leaves and clusters of unusual cream, pink, and purple flowers. Its vining habit allows it to climb through nearby shrubs or supports, creating a distinctive vertical element in native and xeric plantings.
Hartweg’s climbing milkweed is best suited to full sun, heat, and well-drained rocky or sandy soil. Once established, it is well adapted to dry southwestern conditions and is a strong choice for desert gardens, wildlife plantings, and naturalized landscapes.
The flowers provide nectar for insects, while the plant’s milkweed-family characteristics make it a valuable addition to habitat-focused gardens.
A distinctive native climbing milkweed for dry, sunny Southwestern landscapes..

Asclepias californica review
"This site is an amazing resource! Very generous I bought seeds of several varieties, read blog posts about which seeds to clip and how, and about germination using a heat pad. Germination rates varied between the varieties, just about how I expected from the information provided on the site. I am satisfied and will be ordering more."

Asclepias verticillata review
"Used the water method to germinate. Put the seeds in water on a heat mat. After sprouting planted in pots. Germination was greater than 50%. Under lights now. Looking forward to planting outside in a few weeks."

Asclepias speciosa review
"So far so good, lots of seedlings growing right in the ground and in a plant pot. I'm not sure the seeds in the fridge will sprout, but an extra seed packet was included in my order so it's not like I lost anything. Thanks!"
