The habitat is riparian streams at low to mid elevations. The milkweeds native range is only within Arizona in the United States. In Mexico the plant grows in every state. Arizona milkweed has been demonstrated to grow well in Las Vegas, Texas and California gardens. It can be grown in frost free locations. In zones with frost the plant will drop leaves. Hard freezes may require the plant be grown from seed each year. This heat loving milkweed can grow with very little water but prefers to grow in a part shade location with irrigation to the roots Seeds grown in Missouri and harvested in June of 2022.
